Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE-Primary)

The Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE-Primary) is an intensive 15-month programme for bachelor’s degree holders who want to become primary level teachers. The PGCE-Primary courses focus on teaching and learning methodologies designed to enhance teaching skills at the primary level. Methos courses in literacy, mathematics, science and social studies include practical experience affording candidates the opportunity to connect theory and practice in the classroom. A range of courses promote the aspiring teacher’s awareness of social, cultural and development issues of children. Candidates will develop the technological and professional skills required to foster positive development and learning in children.

Any substitutions to this plan must be approved, in writing, by the Dean of the Division. *These courses have a co-requisite of Teaching Practicum All Education students must register and attend the Teaching & Learning Pedagogy Seminars

GPA Requirement

A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required to graduate in the Education Programme.

Overview

Programme Entry Requirements

  1. Applicants must satisfy ALL of the following requirements:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or any other qualification assessed by the Programme Director as equivalent to same;
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent;
  • Minimum grade of a “B” in English 101 and 102 and MAT 105);
  • Submit a personal statement;
  • 2 Letters of Recommendation (academic and/or professional;
  • Formal interview and acceptance into the programme; and

2. Minimum age of 17 years at time of entry into the programme.

3. All Education students are required to maintain a minimum grade of “B” in all Education courses in order to graduate in or continue enrolment in any of the Education Programmes.
