Course Description

This course is designed to develop your skills in communicating ideas, listening and writing on general topics, as well as reading and discussing real-life issues that affect society. It has been specifically created for non-native speakers of English, with special consideration given to working adult learners and the diverse population of the Cayman Islands.

ESOL Level 1

Week 1: Subject Pronouns. Simple tense of Be. Contractions and negatives. Third person singular. Conjugation of have, come and try. Simple present tense of do. Yes/No questions and answers.

Week 2: Multiple meaning words. Numbers, Days, Years, Dates, using in and on. Possessive Adjectives.Prepositions of place. Regular noun formation. Irregular pronouns. Count and noncount nouns.

Week 3:Have vs. have got and must. Present Progressive tense. Present participle formation. Negatives. Information questions. Simple apt tense of Be. Forming negatives and contractions.

Week 4:Forming the past tense of regular verbs. Irregular past tense verbs. Yes/No questions and answers. Past progressive tense. Uses of the modal auxiliary can, must, have to and could.

Week 5: Modal auxiliaries should, may, might, would like. Descriptive adjectives and order. Regular comparatives and irregular comparative adjectives. The superlative.

Week 6:Object pronouns. Possessive nouns. Possessive pronouns. Simple Future tense formation. Future tense using present progressive and simple present. Time expressions.

Week 7:Reflexive and intensive pronouns. Adverbs of time, location, manner and frequency. Present Perfect tense formation, use and final examination.
