Course description

This is a course for beginners Spanish, with emphasis on communicative abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. this course fulfills the language requirement for students without any previous Spanish experience. it is designed to fulfill students needs to learn enough basic Spanish.

By the end of this section student will be able to:

  • Communicate orally and writing in ways appropriate to everyday situations.
  • Participate in conversations of general interest.
  • Gain control over necessary language structure and vocabulary to discuss personal and general topics
  • Present and evaluate information about real life topics in a clear and organize way.
  • Understand and appreciate the Spanish culture.

Conversational Spanish (level 2)

Course description

This is a course for Basic/Intermediate Spanish learners, with emphasis on communicative abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course fulfills the language requirement for students with previous Spanish experience. It is designed to fulfill students needs to learn enough Spanish for their daily lives.

By the end of this section student will be able to:

  • Communicate orally and writing in ways appropriate to everyday situations.
  • Participate in conversations of general interest.
  • Gain control over necessary language structure and vocabulary to discuss personal and general topics
  • Present and evaluate information about real life topics in a clear and organize way.
  • Understand and appreciate the Spanish culture.

Course Outline

Conversational Spanish level 1

Week 1: Greetings and expressions of courtesy, days of the week, months of the year. Pronunciation: Vowels A-E-I-O-U, consonants,

Week 2: Accentuation, cognates, asking for and giving personal information: name, nationality, profession.

Week 3:Numbers, telling the time and the date, Nouns: gender, number, articles.

Week 4:Asking for and giving information: telephone, passport, identify numbers, identifying classroom objects.

Week 5: Adjectives: gender, number, and position, agreement of articles, and adjectives with nouns,

Week 6:family members, subject pronoun, SER + Adjectives and expressing possession: de/del

Week 7:Review and final exam

Conversational Spanish level 2

Week 1: Comparatives and superlatives, regular verbs, present tense of –ar, -er, -ir verbs.

Week 2: Tu vs Usted: Vosotros vs. Ustedes. Speaking of classroom activities, asking and answering yes/no questions.

Week 3: Irregular verbs, present tense SER, ESTAR, TENER.

Week 4: Adjectives: size, shape, color, state, idoms with TENER, asking for and giving personal information.

Week 5: Present tense of DAR, IR, VENIR.

Week 6: Places around town/city, the house: speaking about the house, rooms and furniture, expressing location.

Week 7: Review and final exam
