The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) has strengthened a landmark academic partnership with the New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) in Rhode Island, USA, creating a clear and fully supported pathway for Caymanian students to pursue high-demand technical and professional degrees in the United States.
The partnership, which was formally launched in July 2023, establishes what both institutions describe as an extension of the UCCI campus on US soil - enabling students to transition seamlessly from Certificate and Associate-level programmes at UCCI into Bachelor and advanced degrees at NEIT.
The Cayman delegation convened with NEIT in Barbados on March 25, 2026. During the meeting, discussions were undertaken regarding the current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with particular focus on opportunities for its future enhancement. These engagements subsequently informed continued dialogue aimed at strengthening and advancing the partnership.
The first student cohort began studies in Fall 2024 in Construction Management, and four UCCI students are currently enrolled at NEIT. While Caymanian students have previously studied at the institution on an individual basis, the formal agreement solidifies and significantly expands those opportunities.
Priority disciplines include Cybersecurity and Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Construction Management - all areas of growing strategic importance to the Cayman Islands economy.
A Fully Supported Pathway
A distinguishing feature of the partnership is its comprehensive financial and pastoral support model. NEIT provides on-campus accommodation and a living-expense support package of up to US$25,000 per year, complementing Cayman Islands Government scholarships, with tuition funded through a combination of government and institutional support. Students also benefit from dedicated academic advising, wellness services, and on-campus supervision - ensuring they are supported not only academically, but personally, throughout their studies abroad.
Acting President and CEO of UCCI, Ms Nanalie Cover stated: “The Cayman Islands delegation was pleased to engage with our valued partners at the New England Institute of Technology in Barbados on March 25, 2026. During this important meeting, we expressed our sincere appreciation for NEIT’s continued collaboration and the opportunity to further explore enhancements to our existing Memorandum of Understanding.”
Ms Cover added, “The University College of the Cayman Islands places exceptional importance on this partnership, and we deeply value NEIT’s ongoing commitment to strengthening pathways that support the academic and professional advancement of our students. We look forward to the continued development of this relationship in the years ahead.”
Dr. Henry Young, Assistant Provost at NEIT, said: "We are proud to welcome UCCI students to our campus and to be part of this important initiative. NEIT's hands-on, career-focused approach to education is well matched to the ambitions of Caymanian students, and we are committed to ensuring they have every opportunity to excel - both in their studies and in their professional lives."
Professor Livingston Smith, Provost and Vice President of UCCI, said: "The collaboration with NEIT is a model of international academic cooperation. It enables our students to pursue advanced degrees with full support and guidance, positioning them for success in key industries."
Looking Ahead
Building on early momentum, both institutions plan to launch a targeted marketing and outreach campaign to raise awareness of the programme among prospective students, families, and advisers across the Cayman Islands.
This partnership reflects UCCI's ongoing commitment to educational excellence and its determination to ensure that Caymanian students can compete and succeed on an international stage - without having to sacrifice the support and connection of home.
