Acting President & CEO Nanalie Cover of the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) has issued a statement recognising and celebrating the extraordinary contributions of women across the institution, commending their leadership, excellence, and enduring impact.

“As we continue our shared journey at the UCCI, I pause to reflect with deep appreciation on the remarkable women who embody the heart, strength, and spirit of our institution,” said Ms Cover. “Across every division, our women demonstrate resilience, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to excellence that advances both our University, and our wider society.”

Women at UCCI serve in critical roles across academic and administrative divisions, including Deans, Directors, Professors, and teams in Admissions, Registration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, Student Life, Library Services and Facilities.Their collective contributions continue to position the institution as a leader in higher education regionally and internationally.

Highlighting academic achievement, Ms Cover noted the international publication of Dr. Khadesha Swearing, Behind the Lectern: Caribbean Lecturers’ Perspectives on Group Work (Palgrave Macmillan, 2025), as a significant contribution to global discussions on pedagogy. She also recognised the ongoing scholarly collaboration between Drs. Swearing and Fullerton-Cooper as a testament to UCCI’s commitment to research excellence and innovation.

The Acting President further underscored the importance of community engagement initiatives led by women at the University. Culturama, conceptualised and directed by Dr. Monika Lawrence, was praised as a flagship event that continues to foster cultural expression and strengthen community connections. Plans are already underway to deliver an even more impactful Culturama 2026.

UCCI’s sustainability efforts were also commended, particularly the leadership of Dean Tracey Hargrave and Dr. Deborah Beal in advancing the institution’s environmental and operational priorities. The successful closure of the RESEMBID audit was cited as a key milestone reflecting accountability, diligence, and institutional progress.

In addition, Ms Cover highlighted the continued success of the Dual Enrollment Program under the leadership of Ms. Anola Smith. “This initiative enriches our academic environment while inspiring young scholars to pursue higher education with confidence and purpose,” she stated. “It stands as a powerful example of how intentional early engagement can transform educational pathways.”

Reflecting on UCCI’s 50th anniversary, commemorated in 2025, Ms Cover emphasised the deeper significance of the milestone as a celebration of lives transformed and opportunities realised. She also acknowledged the leadership of Dr. Belinda Blessitt-Vincent and Dr. Annette Murphy in coordinating the University’s inaugural marathon, describing it as a landmark initiative that strengthened community spirit and institutional pride.

“The contributions of the women of UCCI are truly exceptional and extend far beyond what can be captured in a single statement,” Ms Cover added. “They are among the best and brightest professionals, whose dedication continues to shape our institution’s success.”

Aligned with this year’s Universal Honouring Women Month theme “Give to Gain” the University reaffirms its commitment to fostering an environment that supports, empowers, and elevates women.

“I extend my sincere gratitude to all the women of UCCI for your unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions,” Ms Cover said. “Your work continues to bring distinction and pride to our institution.”
