Senior Lecturer - Nursing

This full-time academic role is ideal for a nurse educator with both clinical expertise and teaching experience who is committed to excellence in nursing education and student success. The Senior Lecturer – Nursing will develop and teach undergraduate courses at the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI). While teaching is the primary focus, the role also includes mentoring junior faculty, curriculum development, and engaging in university service and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning (approx. 80%)

  • Deliver high-quality instruction across undergraduate nursing programmes, focusing on but not limited to:
  1. Pharmacology
  2. Pathophysiology
  3. Mental Health Nursing
  4. Medical-Surgical Nursing
  • Design, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials and clinical/lab sessions.
  • Assess student work, maintain records and monitor student progress.
  • Supervise and mentor students during clinical placements, projects, internships, and practicums.
  • Develop and review course materials and teaching methods to reflect best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Programme Director and colleagues across disciplines on curriculum development and program improvement.
  • Support students through advising and regular office hours.
  • Serve as academic and clinical assessor in line with Nursing Council and UCCI standards.

Service (approx. 20%)

  • Participate in leadership, administration, and committee roles.
  • Engage in collegial and community activities, including outreach and partnerships with clinical sites.
  • Provide pastoral care and academic support to students.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Current license/registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife.
  • At least six (6) years of tertiary-level teaching or teaching in a clinical education setting.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing practice experience in at least one of:
  1. Critical Care
  2. Mental Health
  3. Emergency Nursing
  4. Medical-Surgical Nursing
  5. Nurse Anesthesia
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and assess the following courses but not limited to:
  1. Pharmacology
  2. Pathophysiology
  3. Mental Health
  4. Medical-Surgical Nursing
  5. Health Assessment
  • Qualification in nursing education, teaching, curriculum instruction, or similar.
  • Current certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support.

Other Attributes

  • Experience designing courses aligned with university standards.
  • Skilled in innovative and student-centered teaching methods, including online and hybrid environments.
  • Experience mentoring students and junior faculty.
  • Familiarity with simulation-based learning and digital teaching tools.
  • Cultural competence to work effectively in a diverse academic community.
  • Ability to manage multiple roles: lecturer, lab instructor, and clinical coordinator.
  • Industry, commercial, or technical nursing experience are considered an asset.
  • Strong commitment to student-centered learning and academic integrity.

Compensation

  • Salary: KYD $77,088.00 – $101,160.00 p.a. (Grade I)
  • Employer-covered medical insurance, co-contributory pension, and 25 days annual leave.
