The Assistant Professor - Mathematics develops and teaches courses at the University College of the Cayman Islands, principally within the STEM Division, while contributing to the University's research profile and community engagement activities. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction at the Associate, Bachelor’s, and graduate levels, develop and enhance curricula, support student success through academic advising and mentorship, and actively participate in scholarly, service, and institutional initiatives that advance the mission and strategic objectives of UCCI.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Doctorate in Mathematics or a closely related field;
- Minimum of seven (7) years of demonstrated teaching excellence and pedagogical competence at the tertiary level;
- Experience in the development of undergraduate and graduate-level courses and curricula;
- Demonstrated excellence in guiding, mentoring, and advising students toward advanced academic achievement;
- Experience assessing learning outcomes and implementing continuous improvement strategies;
- Proven record of scholarly activity through publications, presentations, and academic conference participation;
- Evidence of collaborative research with academic colleagues and institutions;
- Authoritative knowledge and expertise in Mathematics and related disciplines;
- Ability to teach a range of undergraduate mathematics courses, including developmental mathematics, college algebra and statistics;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel;
- Proven ability to deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments;
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills;
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities;
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders;
ACCOUNTABILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE ROLE:
- Designs, prepares, develops, and delivers Mathematics lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and other learning experiences;
- Contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes consistent with the University's mission and academic standards;
- Assesses student coursework, examinations, and assignments and maintains accurate academic records;
- Monitors student progress and provides academic advising, mentorship, and support;
- Supervises student projects, research activities, internships, practicums, and capstone experiences;
- Develops and implements innovative teaching methods and learning technologies to enhance student engagement and achievement;
- Ensures the quality and continuous improvement of Mathematics courses and programmes in accordance with University and Curriculum Committee guidelines;
- Collaborate with the Dean and faculty colleagues to support effective delivery programme and curriculum development;
- Participates in departmental, divisional, and institutional committees, programme reviews, and quality assurance initiatives;
- Conducts scholarly research and develops a body of academic work that contributes to the University's research profile;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean, Provost, President, or their designee.
Compensation:
Salary Range: KYD $85,320 – $114,768 Per Annum
Employer-covered medical; co-contributory pension and annual leave.
