The University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is pleased to announce the second instalment of short certificate courses offered through its Weekend Workforce Readiness Centre (WWRC). The WWRC was first launched in September 2024.
The WWRC is designed to empower individuals with busy weekly schedules to achieve academic and professional credentials on their terms. Offering a dynamic range of courses and workshops, participants can earn recognised certifications in various subjects and fields.
Flexible Learning Options
Classes are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with options for in-person or online learning. Short courses are designed to be completed in just six to seven weeks, requiring 36–42 hours of class time. Longer certificate courses are occasionally offered.
No prerequisites are required for these courses.
All courses are taught by highly qualified lecturers who are recognised experts in their respective fields, ensuring an engaging and practical learning experience.

Short Certificate Courses Scheduled for Spring 2025 Semester
Most courses are designed to be completed in just six weeks, with one extended 15-week certificate course in health care offered in Spring 2025.

CED 700: Master Project Success WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: CED 700: Master Project Success WKEND – Project management essentials for laying the foundations for success.
- Audience: Aspiring project managers, coordinators, and professionals new to project management.
- Impact: Provides a solid foundation in project management principles and practices, preparing participants for successful project delivery and career progression in project management roles.
- Start Date: March 8, 2025
- Section 1: Offered Saturdays, beginning March 8, 10 am to 2 pm
- Section 2: Mondays and Wednesdays, March 10 & 12, 6 pm to 8 pm

CED 701: Anti-Money Laundering Pro WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: Anti-Money Laundering Pro WKEND – Combatting the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) and navigating regulatory compliance.
- Audience: Financial services professionals, compliance officers, and anyone interested in joining the exciting world of anti-money laundering.
- Impact: Prepares learners/professionals for the regulatory compliance jobs that are geared toward anti-money laundering, combatting the financing of terrorism, and countering proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF). Learners will also be introduced to anti-tax evasion
regimes that include Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and common reporting standards. Global Economic Sanctions will be covered as well. - Start Date: - March 16

CED 702: Business Communication WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: CED 702: Business Communication – Communicate to Influences
- Audience: All persons who are aiming to refine their grammar and business communication skills for greater business effectiveness.
- Impact: Enhances one’s ability to more effectively communicate in writing and speaking in a professional context through advanced communication techniques, knowledge of grammar, and improved oral deliveries.

CED 703: Hedge Funds Admin WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: CED 703: Hedge Funds Admin WKEND – Building expertise in various aspects of Hedge Fund Administration, including investor services, NAV calculation, and Regulatory Compliance
- Audience: Finance professionals, aspiring hedge fund administrators, and individuals interested in the hedge fund industry in the Cayman Islands and around the world.
- Impact:
- Introduces basics of the hedge fund industry and the process of setting up a hedge fund in the Cayman Islands.
- Covers hedge fund administration functions, including financial accounting/NAV calculation, investor services, tax compliance, and regulatory filings.
- Includes case studies and hands-on activities, offering practical experience in setting up and administering a fictitious hedge fund.
- Features guest speakers who are thought leaders in the industry.

CED 705: Elderly Care
- Course Overview: A comprehensive 15-week course, totaling 60 hours of instruction, including 15 hours of clinical lab experience and 15 hours of clinical practical experience. This course is taught within the regular curriculum at the Ruth Eleanor McLaughlin School of Nursing, Mondays and Tuesdays, 5 pm to 7:00 pm.
- Course Title and Core Focus: Elderly Care – building compassionate care skills
- Audience: Aspiring caregivers, family members caring for elderly relatives, career switchers entering the healthcare field, healthcare students specialising in gerontology or elderly care, and community volunteers and employers in elderly care facilities.
- Impact:
- Equips participants with essential caregiving skills (hygiene, mobility, medication management).
- Addresses growing demand for eldercare professionals.
- Promotes dignity and quality of life for the elderly.
- Creates pathways to advanced certifications in nursing or healthcare management.
- Enhances cultural sensitivity and communication for effective care.

CED 707: CompTIA A+ (PC Pro) WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: CompTIA A+ PC Pro – Empowering IT professionals
- Audience: Aspiring IT professionals, career switchers transitioning into IT, students and graduates in computer science or IT, entry-level IT workers formalising their knowledge, and corporate IT teams upskilling in IT systems.
- Impact:
- Provides foundational IT knowledge (hardware, networking, security, troubleshooting). 1.
- Opens entry-level IT job opportunities with globally recognised certification.
- Enhances workplace efficiency by enabling quick resolution of technical issues.
- Establishes a foundation for advanced certifications (e.g., Network+, Security+).

CED 708: CCNA: Introduction to Networks (ITN) WKEND
- Course Title and Core Focus: CCNA: Introduction to Networks – building networking foundations
- Audience: Aspiring network professionals, IT and computer science students, career switchers exploring networking roles, entry-level IT workers expanding their skills, tech enthusiasts and small business IT managers, and educators and trainers in IT and networking.
- Impact:
- Establishes foundational networking knowledge (IP addressing, network protocols, layered models).
- Prepares participants for the globally recognised CCNA certification.
- Offers practical skills in configuring, troubleshooting, and managing networks.
- Opens global career opportunities with industry-aligned training.
