THE PROJECT
At the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI), we are excited to share our new sustainability plan: to use clean energy wisely and teach students, faculty, and community to care for our environment. With a generous grant of €1,024,899.75 EUR, we are turning our campus into a green and responsible model.
UCCI's new project goes beyond regular classes. Our main goal is to make UCCI a real-life learning environment. We'll use cutting-edge technology to monitor and use clean energy sources, reducing UCCI's environmental impact. This also provides invaluable hands-on learning experiences for our students.
This project also connects with our mission to empower Caymanian students. Following the success of our first RESEMBID grant, where UCCI equipped young Caymanians with the skills they needed for sustainable practices in key sectors: sustainable construction, renewable energy, Information Communications Technology (ICT), and tourism, the current project provides these students, along with graduates from the WORC (Workforce Opportunities & Residency Cayman) and PWD (Public Works Department), a once in a lifetime apprenticeship opportunity to shadow local and international experts, applying the knowledge they have gained in the classroom over the past 12 months in real-world scenarios. This hands-on experience not only enhances their skills but also contributes significantly to the long-term social and economic resilience of the Cayman Islands. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, UCCI is preparing the future workforce and contributing to a sustainable future for the Cayman Islands.
