ASSOCIATE OF ARTS IN PRIMARY EDUCATION

Description

The Associate of Arts in Primary Education is a two year programme designed for the candidate planning to work in an education service role. Courses are built on a 2+2 model which provides a continued pathway for qualified candidates wishing to earn a four year Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Courses are designed to connect educational theory with authentic practice in the classroom offering the candidate experiences in managing the classroom, arranging for learning, and assisting the classroom teacher. Technology and methods for effective use in the classroom will be integrated into all education courses and experiences.

Programme Objectives

Programme Objectives for the Associate of Arts in Literary Studies:

The Associate of Arts in Primary Education Programme prepares confident and quali- fied graduates capable of:

Positive classroom management

Arranging for learning

Implementing lesson plans

Assisting learning in small group settings

Assisting individual learning

Ensuring student progress

Assisting the classroom teacher

Using technology to enhance learning

Programme Length

For full-time students, the programme duration is two years or 4 semesters and two summer sessions.

Programme Entry Requirements

Completion of all courses as outlined in the Year 1 programme requirements;

A minimum GPA of 3.0 at completion of Year 1 (30 credits) required courses;

Minimum grade of a “B” in English 101 and 102 and MAT 105;

A personal statement;

2 Letters of Recommendation;

A minimum age of 17 years at time of entry into the programme; and

All Education majors are required to maintain a minimum grade of “B” in all Education courses in order to graduate or continue enrolment in any of the Education Programmes.
