Launch of UCCI's Academic Journals

Friday, Nov 22 2024

Join us as we celebrate the groundbreaking launch of a new student-led journal alongside the eighth annual edition of UCCI’s highly regarded senior journal.

Junior Edition: Groundbreaking Student Presentations

For the first time, our students have experienced the rigours of writing for publication across UCCI’s diverse disciplines and programmes. The student presentations feature two standout presentations:

  1. "What Does it Mean to Be Human": A thought-provoking exploration by one of our students.
  2. Award-Winning Debate Contribution: A presentation by a student who represented the Cayman Islands at the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Challenge for the Atlantic Islands region.

This launch therefore offers the Board of Governors an opportunity to support and encourage our budding researchers and writers. Copies of both the Junior and Senior Editions of the journal were already provided to you at Thursday’s Board meeting.

Senior Edition: 2024 Featured Highlights

The Senior Journal showcases innovative research and educational insights, including:

  • Project-Based Learning in Chemistry: Dr. Antoinette Gayle reports on a “mini-exploration” that uses project-based learning (PBL) to tackle challenging chemistry topics. This approach, applicable across disciplines, fosters collaboration and engagement from a student perspective.
  • Workforce Development: A paper by President Robert Robinson and Dr. Peter Paul identifies skills gaps and initiatives to strengthen workforce competencies in the Cayman Islands.
  • Multiculturalism in Work Teams: Dr. Susanne Palmer presents an exploratory study examining the role of multiculturalism in enhancing workplace dynamics in the Cayman Islands.

These presentations will provide valuable insights into student learning and workforce education.

We look forward to welcoming you to the launch on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall. The event will last approximately 90 minutes, followed by a reception. For your convenience, I have attached the programme and event details.
