Phyllis Brown joined the UCCI team in 2015. Currently, she teaches all biology courses offered at UCCI which includes: anatomy & physiology I/II, biology I/II, concepts of biology I/II, epidemiology, and microbiology.
Prior to joining UCCI, Phyllis taught biological science courses to pre-professional students for four years at colleges and universities in the United States. In addition to her teaching experience, she has worked as a research assistant in plant molecular biology and microbiology laboratories and as a tobacco surveillance and evaluation data analyst.
She has earned her MS in Biology and MPH in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. Phyllis plans to graduate with a PhD in Research, Evaluation, Statistics, & Assessment from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2017. Her research focuses on innovative pedagogical methods in anatomy and physiology.
Since 2015, she has served on the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) Educator Journal Committee. She is a trained Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) group exercise instructor and enjoys teaching fitness classes and traveling. She looks forward to increasing students' interest in the STEM field and preparing pre-nursing students for their future careers.
