For the past decade, Dericka Ebanks has committed her professional life to raising the standards of mathematics education in the Cayman Islands. After receiving a master’s of science degree in Applied Mathematics from the prestigious University of Washington she was recruited by UCCI as a Lecturer of Mathematics & Statistics. Her master’s degree project focused on using dynamic mathematical modeling to investigate the predator versus prey relationship of the Canadian Lynx and Snowshoe Hare. She has experience in both secondary and tertiary mathematics education. It is her belief that an educator’s primary concern should be to facilitate students to successfully develop and utilize their critical thinking skill sets to enhance their problem solving techniques in any arena. Ms Ebanks has a bachelor’s of science degree in Mathematics Education with honors from Florida International University. While attending FIU, Ms Ebanks was a member of both Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society and the National Collegiate Society of Scholars.
