Jervy Pagmanoja Bernardino is a native of the Philippines. His interest in Nursing started from his fascination in wearing the white uniform which he found very decent, well refined and dignifying. After being exposed to the reality of nursing which was very much different than he had imagined, Jervy's views and insights completely changed. Only then did he come to realize that nursing is actually more than its façade of donning the white ensemble. Rather, it is a noble profession that is blended with hard work, commitment and dedication. Most importantly, dignity only comes as a precious reward when one has truly lived up to the goals and expectations of Nursing, that is, to render quality care and exemplary service.

Jervy graduated from Las Piñas College with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2006. It is where he truly discovered the very essence and values of Nursing. His alma mater molded him into becoming a purpose-driven and service-oriented individual. In the same year, Jervy passed the licensure examination for nurses which enabled him to work as a registered professional in the emergency unit in one of the tertiary hospitals in the Philippines. He received his Master of Science degree in Nursing in 2009 from the University of La Salette. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing programme at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Malaysia, where he is undertaking his dissertation in the area of Medical – Surgical Nursing.

Driven by a passion to teach and a desire to impart knowledge and experiences to aspiring nurses, he joined the University of Hail, a government university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a Lecturer and Clinical Preceptor. He was also granted and certified by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) to practice under the category of Nurse Specialist. Jervy has over six years of experience in the field of Nursing, both in the Philippines and in Saudi Arabia, providing classroom discussion and clinical supervision to nursing students of different levels. He enjoys helping students transition from the academic to the clinical setting and believes that it is one of his greatest and most rewarding experiences whilst working as a nursing educator.

Jervy considers himself very fortunate to have been given the opportunity of being a member of the UCCI family and hopes to contribute to the institution's purpose of providing quality education and serving the educational interests of its students especially in the field of Nursing. He says he will do his very best to uphold the standards of nursing within the Cayman Islands by helping students to become caring, compassionate and competent nurses.
